Remember this name: Banque de Nouvelle-Calédonie
On board, a crew led in a masterly way by a New Caledonian sports personality: Michel Quintin. The Head of the Territorial Olympic and Sports Committee (CTOS) is a former top class sportsman himself. Windsurfer World Champion in 1987 and 1990, Michel and his crew sail a JPK, a yacht that has taken all handicap prizes over the last two or three years.
JPK are the initials of Jean-Pierre Kelbert, a well-known former windsurfer himself. His friendship with Michel started over thirty years ago, when JPK sculptured the boards that carried Michel to the highest podium step. Last December, with Gery Trentesaux, they won their IRC4 class in the Sydney-Hobart, and came second overall too. Memorable.
For this year’s Groupama Race, Alexis Loison, a sailor from France, has come to share in the adventure. He won the 2013 double-handed Fastnet in 2013, and came 6th this year in his eleventh Solitaire de Figaro. Alexis complements a well bonded crew of locals, supported by Cédric Bouchet, two-times Groupama Race winner in real time (2008 and 2010) on board Team Australia Les Nouvelles and ODM.NC.
