A “Géant”* catamaran.

Team Vodafone Sailing, (formerly Michel Desjoyeaux’s trimaran Géant, winner of the Transat) has a length and beam of 18m and a mast height of 30m. Her average speed over 24 hours is 25 knots (nearly 50km/h).

Broad reaching she carries a 265m² gennaker. On paper, she is the favourite. She is in New Caledonia with the aim of adding her name to the race winner’s list, as she has done in nearly all the races in this part of the World. Her recent real-time wins include : Bay of Islands Sailing Week, Coastal Classic, Commodore Cup, Auckland-Fiji, Airlie Beach Race Week and Hamilton Island Race Week. She is out-and-out favourite, but Team Vodafone Sailing should beware of outsiders!
