Any Tactic ?

27  Sep.  2016 -  01h 16

After 30 hours of race, the Groupama Race fleet is along the East coast. On real-time, the leader, Vodafone, turned over at 4 :50pm sailing down to Noumea on the western coast. On corrected time, Eye Candy has just taken the lead over the amazing Kétal, the smallest ship of the fleet.

In the first four editions, sailing along the East coast was likely to sail under tradewinds. This year, we forget about it ! The wind is west-north, most of the ships call for tacking and sail near the coast.

Scallywag, first mono on the line, is sailing along the reef whereas Vodafone is half-way from the finish line, she should be near Koumac at dawn. Jessica Rabbit (Orma 40), the last ship on the line, is trying a tactic sailing towards the Loyalty islands but she is still left behind by Moemiti, (Outremer 45 from French Polynesia). Kétal, the smallest ship, has dominated a long time on ORC corrected time.

Even though they are on race, sailors have been distracted by whales, dolphins and shoals of tuna !
