First Aiders at sea – Lifesaving Gestures

30  Mar.  2016 -  11h 12

Struck by the boom, internal or external bleeding, burns,… At sea, more than elsewhere, doing the right thing is vital - it can save lives.

With the Groupama Race six months away, the Cercle Nautique Calédonien has organised, through the SNSM*, a course in first aid at sea, called PSMer*. Ten hours in class, practical exercises and a written exam constitute the curriculum of this OSR* compliant first aid course which complements the ISAF approved offshore personal survival training course.

Fifteen sailors took this internationally recognised sea survival course, required for offshore races. During the up and coming Groupama Race, one third of the crew of each vessel will have successfully completed this training.

Future courses are planned as follows:

  • OSR* compliant first aid course (PSMer*) - 21 and 23 July 2016
  • ISAF Refresher Course – 25 to 29 July 2016
  • ISAF Full Course – 01 to 06 August 2016
  • ISAF Practical - 06 August 2016
